2 Weeks Old!

It's hard to believe that two weeks have already gone by since Hudson has been home. And yet, it's hard to imagine what our home was like without him in it. He brings us so much happiness. We watch everything he does. And laugh at every funny noise he makes. Hudson has more alert times during the day now, he is so much fun! Hudson had his first "big boy bath". He cried at first, but calmed down when we gave him his binky. And shortly after his bath started he was asleep in the tub. Lincoln and Liberty have now taken protective watch over Hudson. Lincoln won’t leave his side when we put Hudson down on the floor. And Liberty cries at the bedroom door when Hudson starts wiggling around in his bed. Hudson now weighs 6lbs 8oz, which is a 6 oz. weight gain since birth, and he is 1 inch longer! He is absolutely amazing!

A Great First Week

Hudson has been adjusting well to his new home. He is so calm, and sweet. We are amazed at what a good baby he is. He had his first pediatricians visit this week. In the hospital he wasn't eating very well so he had to see his pediatrician two days after discharge. He is eating LOTS now, and gained weight! It's amazing how much a small little boy can change our lives. Our house has never been so messy. We have never been so sleep deprived. And it is fantastic! Hudson loves getting his hair washed, listening to music, and watching the kitties (when they dare get close to him). The cats are so big compared to him, we joke that he must wonder why we have lions for pets. He is most awake at night. However, he enjoys watching the sun rise with his dad while his mom catches up on sleep. It's so fun getting to know him. We have been blessed!

Welcome Home Hudson - Born May 6, 2010

Woo! Deep Breath! Where do we even start? Well it all started with a phone call on Wednesday.

A birth mother had flown into Utah on Tuesday, and had a Dr.'s appointment on Wednesday. She was 4 inches dilated and 38 weeks pregnant. The OB was going to wait and see how she progressed on her own, and if she didn't have the baby by morning he was going to induce her. The agency needed a family that was "ready", and could be at the hospital on Thursday! We were more than ready! They showed the birth mother our profile and gave her a letter that we had written for her. She looked at our profile and said this it; this family is perfect for my baby. Once again we were on stand by. Waiting for the birth mother to go into labor, or be induced. More nerve racking than anything was waiting for the birth of our son.

Thursday, May 6th at 1240, we received the call telling us that the birth mother was pushing and she wanted us at the hospital as soon as possible. At 12:54 we got the call that Hudson had been born weighing 6 lbs. 2oz, 19 inches long and doing fantastic. Ten minutes after Hudson's birth we were standing in the birth mother's hospital room. She handed me Hudson and lovingly said "Happy Mother's Day". Hudson looked at me with his big wide eyes and I was in love. My heart was racing, I could barely breath. It was the most amazing moment in my life. Hudson was taken into the nursery where Corey gave him his first bath and I held him until the birth mother asked for him. She wanted as much time with him as possible before the adoption papers were signed and she flew home.

At 10pm the birth mother asked that we take the baby into our room for the night. We were able to room in at the hospital during Hudson's stay. We did not sleep that night. We spent the night feeding, changing, and just holding Hudson. The birth mother asked to have Hudson back in her room at 8am until signing. At 7:55 we took Hudson back to her room. We were so anxious because of our previous experience in St. Louis. What if she couldn't go through with it? What if she decided to parent? Before we left the room the birth mother looked me right in the eye and said "don't you worry about me". The love and respect we have for the birth mother is immeasurable. She gave us the opportunity to have a family. How could we ever put into words how much we love her? She is an amazingly strong, courageous, unselfish woman. Our thoughts and prayers will always be with her.

At 1pm on May 7th we started the signing and at 1:30 Hudson Oscar Dozhier was officially our son. We hugged, cried, laughed and smiled. No one in our family new what we had been living the past 2 days. We didn't want to tell anyone until the signing was completed. In adoption language they call that "guarded". In a short time Hudson's hospital room was full of family that loved him. Tears and smiles all around! Of course that night Hudson stayed in our room. We lost sleep for the second night in a row with out a care in the world.

May 8th at noon, Hudson was discharged from the hospital. We put him in his "going home clothes", placed him in his car seat, and walked out the hospital doors. It was literally like we were living a dream. At 3:30pm our little miracle was home. We introduced him to Lincoln and Liberty (family cats). They weren't impressed, lol. Hudson has met several family members since being home. He is surrounded with love. We are so grateful for this amazing blessing to be parents. Our whole world has changed. There is baby stuff all over the house. Not a minute goes by that were not thinking about what Hudson needs. We wouldn't have it any other way. We know that everyone's prayers our large part of why we have the opportunity to experience this joy. Thank you all so much! We love you all.
